12.45 – 13.00 Light meal for seminar participants

13.00 – 15.00 Green Façade inauguration ceremony

We are losing biodiversity in Europe: can we stop it or do we need to adapt? What are the right targets and how do we measure progress? Enthusiasts are observing biodiversity – but how can their knowledge best be used and how can their views be integrated to achieve a broader view of nature and society?

On the occasion of the International Biodiversity Day the European Environment Agency invites citizens to the inauguration ceremony of a unique living façade of the European Environment Agency and to contribute to a citizens meet science seminar and panel discussion immediately preceding the inauguration ceremony. Steen Rasmussen, member of ISSP's Living Technology Working Group and leader of Flint Center for Fundamental Living Technology appears on one of the panels. The event will take place on Saturday, 22 May 2010 from 11:00 to 15:00 at the European Environment Agency headquarters in Copenhagen.

The living façade inauguration ceremony follows the seminar. The headquarters of the European Environment Agency will be transformed by more than 5,000 plants drawn as a map of Europe symbolizing the different diversity levels in Europe. This will be the first outside living façade project in Denmark, made possible by intensive co-operation between architects, engineers, the Life University of Copenhagen, the municipality and a Danish company specialised in the construction of living walls. The façade will be in place from May to October 2010 and then be moved to the Life University of Copenhagen.
